Connect with vegans from around the world while supporting local Mexican businesses, trying prehispanic vegan food, learning about human rights and environmental issues through workshops and Aztec traditions like temazcal. What's on the Itinerary?


DAY 1 | THE ADVENTURE BEGINS

Our team will pick you up at Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX) in Mexico City. After some rest and relaxation, we will walk over to a vegan restaurant to have a welcome dinner, get to know the amazing people that will be on this journey with you and explore the neighborhood for those who aren't incredibly jet-lagged.

DAY 2 | FRIDA KAHLO, OUTDOOR MARKETS AND ROOFTOP DRINKS

After orientation, we will walk over to Casa Azul, Frida Kahlo’s home and sanctuary in the quiet and quaint area of South CDMX. Feeling inspired by her life and art, we will make our way over to a vegan lunch of ceviche and bean sopa. In the afternoon, we will meander to one of the most quaint and hidden neighborhoods with brick stones, colorful houses and a beautiful sculpture of Diego Rivera. We’ll pop in and out of art galleries and gorgeous shops as we get the lay of the land of where Frida and Diego lived.

DAY 3 | A VEGAN FOOD TOUR WITH HISTORY, STREET FOOD, AND SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESSES

After an optional morning yoga class, we will have a vegan street food experience through local food stands, underground alleyways and hidden hole in the walls. Over the course of almost 6 hours, we will walk through the fascinating layers of history and modern day Mexico City, while supporting small vegan businesses. The evening is free for quiet reflection in the hotel garden or courtyard.

DAY 4 | MOUNTAINS & SACRED AZTEC CEREMONIES

Today we head to a sacred city where a feathered serpent diety named Quetzalcoatl was born around 1,500 years ago. We start the day with exploring this ancient town, taking in gorgeous views of the mountains and eating vegan tlacoyos. In the evening, we will participate in a traditional Aztec healing ceremony in a sweat lodge filled with medicinal herbs, tea, fruit and ancient prayer. We leave the countryside with a deeper connection to the Earth and each other.

DAY 5 | ENVIRONMENTAL WORKSHOP & FOLK DANCE

Start your morning with optional yoga and some free time to relax and soak in the adventure thus far. Our neighborhood is filled with quaint coffee shops, artisan markets and mural filled streets. Meet back up with the group at 2 PM for an environmental workshop which will trace the wisdom of the Aztecs to modern-day Mexico City and come up with solutions for water conservation and sustainability. Afterwards, we head straight for vegan churros and treat ourselves to the majestic Palacio de Bellas Artes for a folk dance performance. Dinner will be a gorgeous balcony terrace restaurant overlooking the town center.

DAY 6 | THE PYRAMIDS OF TEOTIHUACAN

Today we leave the city to go on an archeological adventure to an ancient Mesoamerican city, which was settled in 400 B.C. We will visit the ruins of the city that hold temples, town squares, and pyramids for the moon and the sun. For lunch, we will eat at a restaurant that specializes in pre-Hispanic culinary heritage and is set inside a majestic cave. Eating edible cactus and local plants like goosefoot (it’s vegan!) will help us appreciate the vast diversity of vegan food in the world. After lunch, we will head over to a cafe to try cacao drinks infused with fragrant herbs and chilies. The night is free to relax in the hotel.

DAY 7 | FREE DAY

After breakfast, you have a free morning and afternoon to explore the Anthropolgy Museum, break off into smaller groups to explore a new neighborhood, get in a massage or simply take a book to a local coffee shop so that you can soak in the adventure. Our team can help put together any activities for you or organize drivers so that you can spend this time exploring the city in your own way. Some travelers love going to see more Diego murals while others like to make it a museum day.

DAY 8 | REJUVENATION, NEIGHBORHOOD WALKS AND GOODBYES

On our last day of the trip, we start the day with a workshop from a local vegan brand that is moving the needle on producing leather from cactus, apples and pineapple. We will learn about the challenges Mexico faces from environmental to social issues. In the afternoon, we will go on a taco and cultural tour of two of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city, showcasing the Mexican, modern art and diverse influences entering the city in the last decade. Later tonight we have our final goodbye dinner at a beautiful all vegan restaurant. Tonight is for celebrating friendship, travel and Mexico…you can sleep on the plane ;).

DAY 9 | AIRPORT DROP OFFS

Today we will be organizing airport drop offs for all travelers. If your flight is not until later in the afternoon or night, join us for breakfast and explore anything you wanted to do on your own such as certain museums, art galleries or cafes.

ACCOMMODATION

We stay in a sunny villa in Mexico City on a quiet, tree-lined street in a colorful neighborhood. It is walking distance to coffee shops, lovely restaurants and neighborhoods, and Frida Kahlo’s house. It is also run by a family keeping everything small-scale and local.

Double and single rooms are available. There is a small courtyard in the back of the property where you can have coffee and relax.
