We’re taking you through Oaxaca City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, full of pre-Colombian indigenous culture, culinary traditions and the art of slow cooking, bustling markets overflowing with handcrafted treasures, and the aroma of fragrant mole wafting from street vendors. Beyond the city, ancient Zapotec ruins like Monte Albán and Mitla stand proudly, whispering tales of a rich cultural heritage. Immerse yourself in the local communities, where time and life seems to slow down. Witness the meticulous handcrafting of intricate alebrijes, fantastical mythical creatures carved from wood, and lose yourself in the rhythmic sounds of traditional music filling the air. What’s on the Itinerary?

DAY 1: WELCOME TO OAXACA

Our team will pick you up at Oaxaca International Airport (OAX). After some rest and relaxation, we will walk over to a vegan restaurant to have a welcome dinner, get to know the amazing people that will be on this journey with you and explore the neighborhood for those who aren't incredibly jet-lagged.

Flights can be booked to arrive anytime before 5:30 PM to make it in time for the Welcome Dinner.

DAY 2: COBBLESTONES & HIDDEN GEMS

After breakfast and orientation, we’ll wander through Oaxaca City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and be mesmerized by the baroque architecture, bustling markets overflowing with handcrafted treasures, and the aroma of fragrant food and chocolate wafting from street vendors. We’ll take you through the charming cobblestone streets of Barrio Xochimilco (Oaxaca’s oldest neighborhood), hidden gems like the Museo Textil de Oaxaca, showcasing exquisite hand-woven textiles, and we’ll grab a vegan lunch and dinner full of delicious mushroom tlayudas and Oaxacan chocolate desserts.

DAY 3: VEGAN OAXACAN COOKING & ZAPOTEC RAIN FEATHER DANCE

After an optional morning yoga class, today we start the day with understanding Oaxaca’s rich culinary heritage through a cooking class. Master the art of vegan Oaxacan cuisine. Learn to whip up Oaxacan specialities such as moles, vegan empanadas, and herbal oaxacan drinks from the indigenous people of Oaxaca, the Zapotecs. In the evening, we will watch a performance of “Danza de la Pluma”, a local dance that showcases the battles between the Spanish and the Aztecs.

DAY 4: ARCHEALOGICAL MYSTERIES OF MONTE ALBAN

Let’s discover the mysteries of Monte Albán, the ancient Zapotec capital from 500 BCE perched on a mountaintop. Here, the ruins stand proudly, whispering tales of a rich cultural heritage. With our archeology guide, explore the pyramids, tombs, and ball courts, and learn about the advanced civilization that thrived here. Enjoy the evening sunset back in the city via a rooftop cocktail with the group or a quiet night in.

DAY 5: FREE DAY

After an optional morning yoga class, explore the beautiful museums of Oaxaca City, textile markets and bazaars or churches that you wanted to explore on your own. We highly suggest experiencing an ancestral Zapoteca massage using mezcal, medicinal plants, rosemary oil and blankets (we will help you book this).

DAY 6: DAY TRIP TO HIERVE EL AGUA

After breakfast, we immerse ourselves in natural beauty by visiting Hierve el agua, where frozen cascades of mineral deposits, resembling petrified waterfalls, drape down cliffs. This breathtaking spectacle, coupled with stunning mountain views, promises an unforgettable experience unlike any other.

DAY 7: WEAVING AND RUINS OF MITLA

After an optional yoga class, we’ll end by stepping back into time in the ancient city of Mitla. We will understand the tombs, palaces, and courtyards, marveling at intricate stonework and learning about Zapotec beliefs and rituals. Take the afternoon free or immerse yourself in textile traditions at a weaving workshop in Teotitlán del Valle. Learn about dyeing techniques, natural materials, and the symbolism woven into their designs.

DAY 8: NEIGHBORHOOD WALKS AND GOODBYE DINNER

On our last day together, get in some last minute shopping, explore a museum or art gallery that you missed, go back to your favorite vegan restaurant one last time. You’ll have the afternoon free to explore the lovely historic center on your own. Tonight we meet up for a final goodbye dinner full of native corn, mole, and burned milk ice cream. We’ll leave for the airport with new memories and friendships.

DAY 9: AIRPORT DROP OFFS

Today we will be organizing airport drop offs for all travelers. If your flight is not until later in the afternoon or night, join us for breakfast and explore anything you wanted to do on your own such as certain museums, art galleries or cafes.
