Join Escape To on a 10 day vegan tour across South India exploring unique vegan recipes from tribal to forgotten foods, learning about wildlife rehabilitation and release, sustainability, breaking bread with local families in their homes, and stepping back in time to ancient India in the lost city of Hampi filled with ruins, palm trees and an idyllic way of life. DAY 1 | THE ADVENTURE BEGINS

Our team will pick you up at Bangalore International Airport (BLR). After some rest and relaxation, we will have a welcome dinner, get to know the amazing people that will be on this journey with you and explore the neighborhood for those who aren't incredibly jet-lagged.

DAY 2 | VEGAN COOKING CLASSES & NIGHT MARKETS

Starting the trip off with a post-flight healing sound bath, we'll have a cooking class at one of India's first whole food, plant-based, zero oil restaurants. After lunch, we'll walk through one of the city’s oldest and most bustling markets. Get henna done on your hands or simply take in the beauty of the flower market and temples from different eras and religions. Dinner will be at an open terrace cafe that has vegan food from the Indian countryside.

DAY 3 | WILDLIFE REHABILITATION + HOME COOKED MEALS

Today we'll learn about the rescue of small wild mammals, birds and reptiles in an increasingly distressing urban environment in India. We'll speak with the doctors to understand the challenges and opportunities of animal rehabilitation in the country, the role that religion plays and how travelers can help make a positive impact. In the evening we will visit a local family’s home for a home-cooked dinner on banana leaves.

DAY 4 | SUSTAINABLE FASHION & PALACES

Kicking off the day, we'll attend a sustainable and ethical fashion workshop, and meet entrepreneurs supporting fair trade and fair wages for artisans across India. Lunch will be at an Ayurvedic Cafe with herbal teas and millet dishes. After lunch we will explore an old castle looking palace to get an understanding of the city’s royal past. The evening is free for quiet self reflection or Ayurvedic massages before we travel onto the countryside.

DAY 5 | ROAD TRIP THROUGH THE COUNTRYSIDE

Leaving the buzz of the city, we'll embark on a road trip to the Indian countryside and seemingly step back into 12th Century India. After lunch, we’ll enter the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi where we begin our trip into the ruins, valleys, and lost city. A sister site to Macchu Picchu, you will be in amazement at the immenseness of ancient life, architecture and culture that we will walk through in this medieval city.

DAY 6 | A STEP BACK IN TIME AND EXPLORING THE KINGDOMS

After breakfast, let’s hike our way through the hills, river streams, rice paddies to take in some of the most breathtaking views you may have ever seen on Earth. Through the hike we will encounter monkeys, local villagers, ancient structures and learn about how ancient civilizations built spas, marketplaces, and memorials for their loved ones. Lunch and dinner will be at some of Hampi’s hippy cafes overlooking rice paddies.

DAY 7 | SLOTH BEAR SANCTUARY AND PEACOCKS

After breakfast, we will hire tuk-tuks to take us around caves, bath houses, old horse stables and underground temples. After lunch, we’ll drive through Asia’s first sloth bear sanctuary. We will respectfully and quietly observe animals living in the sanctuary from a distance and try to find the sloth bears going about their evening meals while marveling at flying peacocks, jackals and maybe even a leopard. Let’s exchange our best wildlife photos from the excursion over dinner tonight.

DAY 8 | QUIET REFLECTION, CAFES & RIVERS

After a relaxed morning breakfast, take it easy today to soak in the laid back energy of the hills and rivers. Today is for you to explore on your own, take a local yoga class, get a massage, read a book by the river, relax at a cafe while drinking smoothies or pair up in a small group. We’ll meet up in the evening for dinner and most likely talk about how we never want to leave Hampi.

DAY 9 | BACK TO THE CITY AND VEGAN STREET FOOD

After breakfast, we head back to the city and be transported back into modern India. For our last night together, we'll visit an "all vegetarian" alley of street food vendors to try traditional Indian street food and finish the night off at a rooftop cafe for goodbye drinks. Tonight we marvel at the diversity of India—ancient and modern, peaceful and chaotic, while celebrating friendships, the beauty of vegan travel, and make plans to meet each other around the world again.

DAY 10 | GOODBYES AND AIRPORT DROP OFFS

We will start airport drop offs early morning and throughout the day. If you have a late night flight, take the afternoon to soak in Indian music through the ages at a beautiful classic Indian music museum, get an Ayurvedic massage or relax with friends over coffee.
