What's on the Itinerary?
The 11 Day Vegan Adventure to Sri Lanka provides yoga classes most days, led by Australian yoga instructor Roz Smith.
DAY 1 | ARRIVALS, MINGLING AND WELCOME DINNER
Our team will pick you up at Colombo International Airport. After some rest and relaxation, we will have a 45 minute evening yoga class followed by a welcome dinner, and get to know the amazing people that will be on this journey with you.
DAY 2 | COLOMBO BY FOOT, VEGAN COOKING, AND KITE FLYING
After a morning yoga session and breakfast, we will walk around the city exploring historic architecture, its’ colonial past and progressive modern art scene. For lunch, we will have a cooking class with a vegan chef who’ll teach us Sri Lankan favorites like pumpkin curry, coconut salad, and string hoppers! We’ll end the day at the beach watching the locals fly kites during sunset and having dinner and drinks by the water.
DAY 3 | A SCENIC TRAIN RIDE & CEYLON TEA
A day trip to Sri Lanka’s tea country will start with an adventurous train ride where we can soak in views of lush greenery and rolling hills. Upon arrival, we’ll dig into a vegan buffet full of wild rice, lentils, Ayurvedic porridge, and vegetable soup and visit a spice garden to learn how vanilla, turmeric, nutmeg, cinnamon and cocoa are grown. We’ll walk over to a traditional tea cafe serving up Sri Lanka’s famous Ceylon tea with almond milk. In the evening, we’ll meander around the city before heading back on the train to Colombo.
DAY 4 | MARINE CONSERVATION WORKSHOP
After a morning yoga class, we’ll participate in a workshop and discussion with Sri Lanka’s marine conservation thought leaders and activists. We’ll learn about urgent ocean conservation needs in Sri Lanka, the challenges and solutions that local scientists are working on, and how we as travelers can become more ocean conscious. Post workshop, we’ll visit the old Fort, explore the religious diversity of Colombo and have tea or drinks at a rooftop overlooking the city.
DAY 5 | MANGROVE PROTECTION & RURAL DEVELOPMENT
After breakfast, we’ll check out and ride down Sri Lanka’s coast. We’ll visit a rural mangrove protection project to prevent the destruction of flora, fauna and entire communities against catastrophic flooding, We’ll learn about mangrove restoration, environmental education and encouraging agricultural biodiversity. Highlight of the day? Learning about rare medicinal plants available only in Sri Lanka.
DAY 6 | YOGA, BEACH & LIGHTHOUSES
This morning’s yoga session will be followed by breakfast consisting of coconut bread, potato soup, mangoes and vegan turmeric pancakes. You’ll have the afternoon free to relax on the beach, sunbathe or get some alone time. We’ll meet for a dreamy sunset by the fort and hop in and out of the small boutiques, handicraft shops and cafes in the old town. Dinner tonight will be at an eclectic artist’s home cafe.
DAY 7 | SUN SHOWERS IN A TROPICAL RAIN FOREST
We’ll wake up early to spend the day in Sri Lanka’s last viable area of primary tropical rainforest. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the rainforest is an ongoing conservation and protection effort. We’ll hike through the forest exploring rare species of birds, reptiles, flora and fauna that are endemic to Sri Lanka and hidden waterfalls.
DAY 8 | BEACH DAY
A day to rest and relax by sipping coconut water, eating fresh fruit and spending time privately or in small groups lazing on the beach.
DAY 9 | REHABILITATING ELEPHANTS TO GO BACK INTO THE WILD
In order to ethically observe elephants, we will visit a center that is rehabilitating elephants to put them back into their natural habitat. From a distance, we will see elephants going about their daily routines near the river. Our tourism will not support elephant rides, bathing or touching the elephants and other activities that disturb the animals. A portion of this trip’s fees will go toward the ongoing welfare and release of these elephants into the wild.
DAY 10 | A COASTAL ROAD TRIP
After an early morning yoga session and breakfast, we’ll begin our road trip to North Sri Lanka along the beautiful coast. We’ll stop at little coastal villages along the way for fresh juices and roadside food shacks.
DAY 11 | PRE-PLANE YOGA & GOODBYE DINNER
Saving the best for last, we will have time to go last minute shopping, get optional massages and take a pre-plane yoga class. After a hearty goodbye brunch, we'll leave for the airport with many memories and new friends.
